Probationary Certification Process

Requirements

  • Candidate completed 50 clock hours of field-based experiences including detailed reflections. For more information email dept_fieldexperience@lamar.edu
  • Candidate passed the required content area examination(s) including the EC-12 PPR exam to be issued a probationary certificate or candidate was approved for a test exemption waiver by TEA
  • Candidate completed and passed 12 semester credit hours in the following courses PEDG 5330, PEDG 5344, PEDG 5375 or PEDG 5387, and PEDG 5367 or PEDG 5345.
  • The request for a Probationary Certificate must be initiated by the school district’s human resources representative on letterhead requesting to place the candidate on a probationary certification.
  • The letter should include the Candidate's name, 爱神传媒 student ID #, TEA #, position for hire, and grade levels and emailed to alternative.certification@lamar.edu
  • Once the Alternative Certification office receives the hiring request from the school district the following steps must occur:
  • Candidate is enrolled into internship course. PEDG 5383 is required for Semester I and PEDG 5384 for Semester II.
  • Candidate is recommended to TEA for a 1-year probationary certificate by Lamar certification office. Probationary certificate can be renewed for an additional year if the candidate has not completed all of the coursework for the program.
  • Internship Deadline Dates:
    • July 1st- To be enrolled in PEDG 5383- Internship for Fall Semester
    • December 1stTo be enrolled in PEDG 5383- Internship for Spring Semester

     The advisor will not be able to enroll you into PEDG 5383-Internship 1 until all requirements above are met. Registration deadlines are firm. Failure to meet deadlines results in waiting until the next full semester to enroll in internship.

    Please note: The intern certificate process can take up to 4-6 weeks. Please submit your required documents as soon as possible to avoid missing the above deadline dates.

    (g) An EPP must provide ongoing support to a candidate as described in Subchapter F of this chapter (relating to Support for Candidates During Required Clinical Experiences) for the full term of the initial and any additional internship, unless, prior to the expiration of that term:

    (1) a standard certificate is issued to the candidate during any additional internship under an intern or probationary certificate;

    (2) the candidate resigns, is non-renewed, or is terminated by the school or district;

    (3) the candidate is discharged or is released from the EPP;

    (4) the candidate withdraws from the EPP;

    (5) the candidate is a late hire and fails to meet the pre-internship requirements within 90 business days of assignment in accordance with §228.55 of this title (relating to Late Hire Candidates); or

    (6) the internship assignment does not meet the requirements described in this subchapter.

    (h) If the candidate leaves the internship assignment for any of the reasons identified in subsection (g)(2)-(6) of this section:

     (1) the EPP, the campus or district personnel, and the candidate must inform each other within one calendar week of the candidate's last day in the assignment; and

    (2) the TEA must receive the certificate deactivation request with all related documentation from the EPP within two calendar weeks of the candidate's last day of the assignment in a format determined by the TEA.

    (i) The EPP must communicate the requirements in subsection (h) of this section to candidates and campus or district personnel prior to the assignment start date

     Please note: Candidates who completed their certification exams, and program will still need to complete the full one-year internship and any other requirements of their program prior to being eligible for a standard certificate.

Please note: Candidate must submit fingerprints to TEA if needed. If the candidate fingerprints are not on file, TEA will provide the fingerprinting application immediate after they apply for certification with TEA.

Master of Arts in Teaching Online Program Students:

  • Candidate will login in their TEAL account at 
  • Complete the Probationary Certificate Application: Select Applications, Probationary Certificate Texas Program, University Based as the Entity

Please note: Candidate must submit fingerprints to TEA if needed. If the candidate fingerprints are not on file, TEA will provide the fingerprinting application immediate after they apply for certification with TEA.


Probationary Certification (230.37)

  • Valid for one 12-month period
  • Limited to two 12-months periods maximum
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited institution of higher education
  • Participating in an EPP and internship course
  • Test Exemption waiver was approved for the appropriate content examination(s), and the PPR, or candidate has taken and passed the appropriate content examination(s) and PPR.

Please note: A candidate must meet the subject matter knowledge requirements for issuance of a probationary certificate to serve an internship in a classroom teacher assignment for each subject area to be taught. TAC (230.37)
