January 23 – April 2, 2026
Opening Reception: Friday, January 23, 2026, 6:00–8:00 p.m.
There is no other requirement for looking at art than simply to look. Reflecting on a visual experience is for the wanderer, someone who understands that introspection is essential to a fully lived experience. Those curious enough are encouraged to study the drawings more closely: the texture, the tooth of the paper, the water-stained mass. Look at the drawings as a reflection of self, as if the people depicted were standing in the gallery and you were on display. Only then should you consider how the drawings were made.
Beginning in 2017, I collected water and branches from the Rio Grande to create this series, the river serving as a metaphor for the people of the region. Considering the materials used, I am increasingly aware that the artworks also speak to a shared connection across the whole of humanity by way of water and carbon, which make up more than ninety percent of our bodies, the tether that binds us.
