Dr. Thomas Harvey believes that the primary purpose of leadership preparation is to develop educational leaders who can build trust, foster collaboration, and positively influence the lives of students, teachers, and communities. Drawing upon decades of experience as a teacher, principal, superintendent, and professor, he strives to connect leadership theory with the realities of practice. His courses emphasize authentic problem-solving, reflection, ethical decision-making, and the application of research to challenges commonly faced by school leaders. Central to his teaching is the belief that leadership is fundamentally relational. Students are encouraged to develop the habits of collaborative leadership, recognizing that meaningful and sustainable school improvement occurs when educators work together toward shared goals. A recurring message in his classes is the importance of trust, a principle reflected in his teaching that schools thrive when leaders choose collaboration and support over fear and control. This perspective has influenced many graduate students and doctoral candidates who continue to incorporate these ideas into their own professional practice and scholarly work.

Equally important to Dr. Harvey's philosophy is a commitment to accessibility, mentorship, and servant leadership. He views teaching as an ongoing partnership that extends beyond individual courses and seeks to create an environment in which students feel supported and challenged to grow professionally. Graduate students are encouraged to maintain an open dialogue, and he freely shares his contact information as a reflection of his belief that effective leadership begins with being present, available, and willing to serve others. He also reminds aspiring administrators that professional success should never come at the expense of personal well-being, often encouraging students to "never let your passion for your profession exceed your personal needs." Through teaching, doctoral mentorship, and professional guidance, Dr. Harvey works to prepare reflective, ethical, and resilient leaders who are committed to collaboration, continuous improvement, and service to others
